Gardena Smart Water Controller Sets

Since its founding in 1961, Gardena has developed from a small trading company selling garden tools into the globally recognised manufacturer we know today. In 2007 Gardena became a member of the Swedish Husqvarna group, giving them access to the resources needed to develop their technology further than ever before.

In 2016, Gardena released their 'smart system' to the public. This system is designed to make watering as easy as possible, while also giving the user endless options for precise irrigation where required. The system requires a Gardena smart Gateway to communicate the data received from the wireless devices to the free and simple to navigate Gardena mobile app. Once both the gateway and Gardena app are installed, the user can run through both the initial set-up and the programming of the irrigation schedules required.

The Gardena smart system gateway is, in effect, the device that communicates with the individual controllers and sensors and relays this information to the mobile app using either a wired LAN connection (recommended) or through Wi-Fi. To yield the best connection possible between the gateway and the accessories, the gateway should be placed indoors near a window that looks out towards the garden. This is because the radio frequencies that the system uses to communicate can be obstructed by solid materials like concrete or brick. The gateway can also be mounted vertically on a wall if required.

Thanks to the app, the Gardena smart Water Controller needs only one button. Pressing this button once will light up the LED's that show the status of the timer, and pressing it again will manually open or close the internal solenoid valve. The Gardena app allows the user to easily programme endless unique watering schedules, where they can control the start time and length of the irrigation cycle, as well as the days of the week in which the schedule will run. The app features the 'Gardena-assisted mode', which uses the answers to just seven multiple-choice questions to accurately generate schedules for you.

The Gardena smart sensor can be used to measure the soil moisture levels at the root of the watered plants, as well as the light intensity and the temperature at the surface. This data automatically gets sent back to the gateway and the Gardena app, where it can be used to adjust the planned schedules to suit the current weather conditions.
