Gardena Smart Sensors
Since its founding in 1961, Gardena has developed from a small trading company selling garden tools into the globally recognised manufacturer we know today. In 2007 Gardena became a member of the Swedish Husqvarna group, giving them access to the resources needed to develop their technology further than ever before.
In 2016, Gardena released their 'smart system' to the public. This system is designed to make watering as easy as possible, while also giving the user endless options for precise irrigation where required. The system is controlled through the free and simple to navigate Gardena mobile app.
The Gardena smart sensors can be used to measure the soil moisture levels at the roots of the chosen plants, as well as the light intensity and the temperature at the surface. This data automatically gets sent back to the gateway and the Gardena app, where it can be used to adjust the planned schedules to suit the current weather and soil conditions.
Using two AA 1.5v batteries, these sensors will run for approximately 6 months before new batteries are required. Due to the intricate nature of the internal circuitry, these sensors are protected down to a temperature no lower than -1°C. To protect from damage, the unit should be brought indoors when below freezing weather is forecast.
